“Musical creation and theory under international view”

In order to promote creative plan of the Ministry of Education on graduate students and share education resources of art, the summer school of graduate students in art in Shanghai in 2017 will be held in Shanghai Conservatory of Music from July 2nd.

With her advantages in art education, Shanghai Conservatory of Music decides to enroll students from all over China to pursue artistic creative spirit, art dream and art value.

1. Teaching experts

Professor Steven Laitz

He is the director of music theory and analysis department of The Juilliard School.

Professor Anne-Marie Reynolds

She is a professor of music history of The Juilliard School.

2. Course arrangement

General arrangement: July 2-7, intensive lessons inside SHMC.

July 8-14, practical use of theory and writing of report

Teaching method: seminars, group lessons and master classes.

3. Time and venue for intensive lessons

Time: July 2-7, 2017

Venue: Shanghai Conservatory of Music (20 Fenyang Road, Xuhui District, Shanghai)

4. Arrangement on practical-use-of-theory week

Time: July 8-14, 2017

5. Benefits for membership

(1) Certificate

After evaluation, participants will be awarded with summer school certificates joined issued by Shanghai Academic Degree Committee and Shanghai Conservatory of Music.

(2) Financial benefit

All members will be exempt from tuition fees, and school will shoulder some catering fees and provide subsidy of transport for members outside Shanghai Conservatory of Music.

(3) Art practice credit points

For graduate students of Shanghai Conservatory of Music, credit points for art practice will be granted accordingly.

6. Enrollment information

(1) Number of enrollments and requirements

1. The summer school plans to enroll 100 students, 50 from SHMC and 50 from other sources.

2. Applicants should be graduate students in music school of colleges in composing, musicology, musical performance or related majors.

(2) Way of selection

Individuals should apply and seek approval by the units they belong to.

(3) Application time

Applicants should submit digital material by June 2.

8. Enrollment

The list of successful applicants will be published on the website of master student department of SHMC in mid of June. The successful applicants should come to the summer school on time and participate all the activities of the summer school.
